THE FIRM HISTORY

While working as a campus architect at the Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Garrett F. “Bud” Miles noticed a void in the market. At the time, projects were either pretty or technical, but rarely both; and, the market was focused on the architect rather than the client. In 1980, Bud set out to change this and created Miles Associates. With the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation as his first client, he spent the subsequent 40 years working closely with clients to design unique facilities with stringent technical design criteria that also served as iconic landmarks tailored to the clients’ individual aesthetics.

Throughout his career, Bud was honored with many professional accolades, but he was most proud of the countless designers and architects he mentored as he grew Miles Associates from a one-person firm to a specialized team of design professionals with projects throughout the United States and internationally in 10 different countries.

THE MILES LEGACY

In 2020, the firm restructured and rebranded as part of a comprehensive transition plan that Garrett F. "Bud" Miles and Jorge Charneco implemented over a 5+ year timeframe. Jorge began his career in 1993 and for 28+ years, he worked closely with Bud. They collaborated on many of the firm's signature projects including the Oklahoma Children's Hospital Physicians Facility & Atrium, the OSU Hamm Institute for American Energy (formerly known as the GE Global Research Oil & Gas Technology Center), and multiple projects for their mutual alma mater, The University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma.

Building on Bud's 40+ year legacy, Jorge has worked closely with the MILES LEADERSHIP TEAM to capitalize on the firm's experience and skillsets by retooling our project delivery model through proactive project management and a clear focus on providing tangible value to our clients. While our name was formally changed to MILES ARCHITECTURE, the commitment that earned the trust of our clients remains the same as we continue Bud's legacy and strive through our everyday actions to have a positive impact on our clients and the communities where we live and work.
