Job Title:     SPECIFICATION WRITER
Location:    Oklahoma City, OK

MILES ARCHITECTURE is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Specifications Writer to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will collaborate closely with project managers and other design staff from schematic design through construction administration to assist in selection of products and systems, refine proposed solutions with product representatives, and prepare project specifications.  Additionally, you will work with consultants and owner’s representatives to coordinate product manuals.  In addition to specification writing, the ideal candidate may take on secondary responsibilities based on their qualifications and career goals. These could include Sustainability Coordination, Building Envelope Review, BIM Coordination, or some other contributions aligned to the firm’s needs. 


Key Responsibilities:

Primary Duties (Specifications):

-    Develop and maintain architectural specifications using MasterSpec and CSI formats.

-    Coordinate with project managers to integrate specifications with drawings and BIM models.

-    Research and evaluate building materials, systems, and products for performance and compliance.

-    Ensure specifications meet applicable codes, regulations, and quality standards.

-    Maintain and update firm-wide specification templates and standards.

-    Participate in QA/QC reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of documentation process.

-    Coordinate Consultant specifications including those requiring joint review, assemble and prepare Project Manuals for publication.

-    Identify and provide analysis of selected product options for Design Team selection.

-    Identify potential product alternatives for projects with Budget Concerns.

-    Proactively coordinate Product Representatives meetings to educate team on products and services provided by product manufacturer for

     specific projects.

-    Coordinate specifications with Client Divisions 00 Procurement and Contract and 01 General Requirements.

 

Potential Secondary Duties (Sustainability Coordination, Building Envelope Review, BIM Coordination):

-    Lead sustainability efforts across projects, including, but not limited to LEED, WELL, and other green building certifications.

-    Collaborate with design teams to integrate sustainable strategies from concept through construction.

-    Track and document sustainability goals, credits, and compliance throughout project phases.

-    Stay current with evolving sustainability standards, technologies, and best practices.

-    Review code required insulation requirements and advise when they should be exceeded.

-    Review wall sections and details, and advise on appropriate enclosures, flashing, and other envelope components.

-    Educate and support staff on sustainable design principles and firm-wide environmental goals.

-    Implement and enforce BIM execution plans (BEPs) and project-specific workflows.

-    Maintain and update BIM standards, templates, and libraries.



Qualifications:

-    10+ years of experience in the field of architecture.

-    Bachelor’s degree in architecture, Environmental Design, or a related field preferred, but not required.

-    Proficiency with MasterSpec, BSD SpecLink, or similar tools.

-    Strong knowledge of building codes, construction practices, and sustainable materials.

-    CSI Certification (CCS or CDT) and LEED AP or WELL AP preferred.

-    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

-    Ability to participate in multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
